School History

The Dance Company for the Performing Arts is located in North Versailles PA, east of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1981 by Pat McKeown, DCPA is celebrating its 30th year of performing arts in Allegheny County. DCPA began with a clear vision to bring professional dance training to students outside the city of Pittsburgh in a supportive and noncompetitive environment. From the beginning the school’s focus has been on proper training, appreciation and enjoyment of the performing arts, and creating a positive experience of all students that will last them a lifetime.

The school first studio was a 1,000 sq ft facility. As the school’s reputation blossomed, Pat found it necessary in 1983 to move to a 5,500 sq. ft facility to house her growing school and performing companies.

As her many students went on to professional careers, some returned to teach master classes and eventually joined the teaching staff, bringing with them new and exciting ideas for cutting-edge choreography, innovative classes and greater performance opportunities.

Most recently, in 2011, Pat has staged her popular Nutcracker for the Grand Theatre in Elizabeth PA, to rave reviews and sold out performances. The Nutcracker returned this year, along with an added 2012 spring production of Cinderella.
